You need to install the firmware for the device, especially for RHEL on these laptops. Ubuntu has firmware for a lot of them already installed. I had no problems with Ubuntu 7.04 thru 9.04 on my D600 and D630 laptops. However, wireless with RHEL 5 still requires use of the ndiswrapper and the windows driver + firmware.

Followed the following link to bring in the Dell drivers, h t t p : / / linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#fw-b43-lp (unable to post links until I hit 15 posts.)
After completing the steps above, I installed ndiswrapper. The instructions were found in INSTALL.
Now that is completed, I still get the following error in DMESG:
Code:bcm43xx: Error: Microcode "bcm43xx_microcode5.fw" not available or load failed. bcm43xx: core_up for active 802.11 core failed (-2) bcm43xx: set security called, .level = 0, .enabled = 0, .encrypt = 0 SoftMAC: Associate: Scanning for networks first. You still need the firmware/microcode. There is a tool to extract that from the driver package. There is a tool to do it called b43-fwcutter. Read this page for instructions on how to install driver and firmware for the Broadcom bcm43 class of wireless cards: b43 - Linux Wireless

I solved the problem
I had the same problem yesterday with fedora 13. Today I just bought a belkin wireless G usb adapter aand just plugged into the usb of the laptop. Immediately it detected the internet. It also worked for ubuntu. the cost of the adapter is euros 29.
The details of the adapter are in the following link:
belkin.com/iwcatproductpage.process?product_id=179211
?Yesterday i bought the laptop. newer laptops are 802.11n wireless. most of the laptops cannot use wireless in linux. the drivers are in development. The solution is just to buy a wireless adapter of b or g of belkin F5D7050 which costs euros 29.Last edited by MikeTbob; 06-06-2010 at 03:18 PM. Reason: Removed Bold, Large fonts

Using a different wireless card won't necessarily solve this problem in Red Hat. Red hat uses an older kernel version. Wireless on Linux has advanced rapidly since then, and you aren't even able to install modern drivers on the Red Hat kernel.
I see that it is using the bcm43xx driver. That driver truely sucks, and using NDISwrapper/WinXP driver is much better. If you can update your kernel, I believe that Red Hat may have ported the b43 driver to their kernel. But I could be wrong on this.
Anyhow, when using any driver other than bcm43xx, you should blacklist the bcm43xx driver to keep it from loading at boot.Paul

Oh, I almost forgot!
Here's a firmware package that I made for Broadcom wireless cards. This should install any firmware needed for bcm43xx and b43 drivers.
