Help error!
Hi.
Im new to linux and im trying to install acronnis backup on my redhat linux server as I have hdds failing and wish to backup my data. I get through the install but a message asks me compitole the SnapAPI module for your Linux kernel.
I researched this and ethrying goes fine till I get to the part of compile i get the message unable to find kernel source. My kernel is 2.6.18-8-el5xen.
I have checked all the usuall places it says and its not thier, Can i download this file from somewhere?
Also my server is running Gnome, is this a problem.

Which version of RedHat are you using? I have never used Acronnis for backup. Clonezilla and PartImage worked fine for me and I would suggest you to try any one of those.
You can find kernel source at kernel.org and in Installation Media too.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You need to download the kernel sources from Red Hat, or possibly install (at a minimum) both the kernel.devel and kernel.headers packages with yum. My guess is that Acronis needs to build a kernel module and you need at least those two packages (kernel-devel and kernel-headers) for it to do that.
But, as DC said, use something open source to image and backup your system. Acronis is way overkill for this sort of need. So, did you download the free trial version, or have you already paid for one of their packages?Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
