    Dear friends

    What are the precautions and procedure do i need to follow
    while upgrading the Kernel?

    Please let me know the complete details of a procedure of upgrading a kernel in a production environment?

    first precaution would be to not upgrade it in production first. make sure everything works together before applying it to your production system. Obviously backups are important. and make sure you install new kernels, not upgrade them. that way, the old kernel is left available, and you can boot back into it if the upgrade doesn't work as planned.

    if you looking for exact instructions, you need to be more specific. what distribution are you running, what version, have you made any custom changes to the kernel? what version of the kernel are you using (pae, smp, stuff like that.)
