typical fc12 partition sizes
My objective is to have a dual boot system: 50G windows 7, and 700GB
Fedora/home. Could someone pls inform me about the expected growth
of Fedora (just the OS) in terms of GB? Also, what are the other normal
linux partitions and typical sizes?
thx.,
henry

Hello and Welcome.
I'd suggest that you start with 1GB swap, 20 GB /, and the rest to /home. This way, if you decide to switch distros you have all of your saved files on the /home partition and as long as you do not format this partition, your files will be safe.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

Hello and welcome, henry!
There really aren't any typical sizes for partitions because different people have different intentions for the use of their machine. Some users run complete systems on as little as 5 to 10 GB while others use huge drives to run the same system. The main thing is to create partitions that are big enough to do what you want with your own system, hopefully to prevent any potential issues that go with having to restructure the partitions at a later date.
My own partitions are usually created something like the following:
/ ext4 (about 10GB or more)
swap (about 2GB) - although you might not need any of you have lots of RAM
/home ext4 (about 10GB or more)
I used to run ext3 rather than ext4 for the filesystem but both seem to work quite well, so either is acceptable for my own use.
Let us know how it all works out for you.oz
