Installing software
I have got the book, "Fedora 10 & RHEL bible", but after reading the info on page216/217, I still cannot install software in tar.gz format, or any other type for that matter. Can anyone explain, explicitly how this should be done from the moment I receive the downloaded software on my monitor.
Kind regards to all

The best way to install software under Linux is generally going to be by using the default package tool for your distribution, which in your case would be YUM. If that isn't possible with the packages that you want to install, you can check this HowTo for instructions on installing packages from source (tarballs):

Many thanks Ozar for your speedy reply. Have just been into How To and printed off all the info.I'm now going to spend time reading and digesting same and hopefully learn something.
Kind regards
