RHEL4 might be simply too old.
    Use RHEL5, or CentOS5.

Any reason you have chosen a server distribution for a laptop?
Fedora or ubuntu might make it easier in terms of laptop hardware and also media player support.

    Hello and welcome!

I remember lots of discussion about RHEL 4 and various SATA issues back when it was released. That was going on 6 years ago, so I must agree with Irithori that you should consider installing a newer version of RHEL, or some other Linux distribution. CentOS is definitely a great option if you don't want to purchase the latest version of RHEL. It's basically the same code base but without the RH logos and paid support.

    Hi and Welcome !!

Install latest version of CentOS instead of RHEL. As other members mentioned already, CentOS is RHEL clone minus RedHat branding. You won't have to purchase license and will have all security and packages updates. Community support is really good too.

    Dear kannan,
We cannot install RHEL 4 in laptop, because in default it doesnot have sata support. Usually a driver called "ata_piix" which is used to support the sata hard drives.
I have also faced this issue. My suggestion is better you can go for RHEL 4.7 (If you redhat distribution) else go for UBUNTU 10.04

There is no such thing as a distribution or its installer (generically) "having SATA support" (or not). Some SATA chipsets have been supported since practically forever, as their programming interfaces are unchanged from PATA predecessors. Others are brand-new and require new drivers from scratch. More details are here.
