Help configuring Firefox on Fedora 13
Hello,
I have managed to install java, flash and acrobat plugins but haven't been able to make Firefox play wmv, wmp files. I am following instructions from myguides.net website and when I search for test player on google at the webpage PluginDoc: Windows Media Player Plugin Test Player (XP/Vista) and it doesn't work.
Can anybody point me towards a good simple path please?
Thanks-D-

Normally, FF on Linux won't play embedded Windows media files, though you can configure it to use an external player to do that. You also need all the proper codecs to play them - I suggest installing the VLC media player, as it can handle all those formats normally out-of-the-box.
So, go to Edit->Preferences->Applications and look at the configuration for WMV and WMP video. On my system, I have no entry for WMP videos, but WMV shows the action to be "Always ask", which means that FF should ask me what external player I want to use. See what yours says, and adjust it accordingly. In any case, I don't think there is a Linux-FF plugin to handle embedded wmv/wmp videos directly in the browser. Flash works great, however.Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
