Quake 3 won't work on linux

I installed quake 3 on fedora and I cannot open it. The icon won't start the game because it's unclickable. So I tried to open the game in terminal su quake3 and that responded with sys_error: couldn't load default.cfg.

If anyone out there understand my problem and would like to help. I'd appreciate.

    Hello and Welcome.
I'd say forget Quake 3 and check out Alien Arena.
Alien Arena - a fast, fun and free FPS!
You can probably install it with
    Code:
    yum install alienarena

I'm a big Quake fan too, or at least I was at one time. While I was able to get Quake to run under Fedora, back around Fedora 6 or 7, I haven't had a lot of success with more recent releases. At any rate, the error "can't open default.cfg" may be because the file in fact doesn't exist on your system or it's a file permissions error. Trying to remember these errors. Believe me, I've had them all. Something else to consider. If default.cfg doesn't exist and is a file that is created during first run of the game then write permissions for the folder may be lacking for whatever user is running the game.
