iTunes installation
I want to install itunes. I'm sure someone will already have done this so can you please tell me how to. I've tried the obvious, but no joy. My os is Fedora 12. Thank you.
The 'obvious' was to go to itunes site and download the program, but I was unable to do so, it appears not to be compatible with linux.Last edited by JTH; 08-09-2010 at 03:08 PM. Reason: To be more explcit

iTunes is a Windows/Mac program that has no Linux version.
What is "the obvious"?I've tried the obvious, but no joy.
Running Windows apps under Linux is usually best done using Wine. The Wine app DB shows that iTunes has only a so-so compatibility record.

Hi I found a very easy way to do this...
Im a 15 year N00B
download and install Play on Linux
They have packages for easy install.
It lets you install everything from iTunes to Office 2007 Games and More.
This program is free and easy as hell as long as you download the iTunes package or for Microsoft Office 2007 you just need the installation CD.
Hope that helps

the obvious
since no one has stated the obvious, i shall start the process. the more time you spend in the linux environment, the less enamoured you will be with itunes. if you are prepubescent or spending someone else's dime, itunes appears to be the easy way. this will change.

As stated above, iTunes is a Window/Mac only application with no Linux version. You cannot install software designed for Windows/Mac in Linux without some sort of interpreter like WINE. This is never a good idea, in my opinion.
Instead perhaps we can determine what you want to do with iTunes and suggest another program (native to Linux) that will do that just as well? Are you simply looking to listen to your music collection, or perhaps shop for songs online? Communicate with an iPod or other music device? Rhythmbox comes preinstalled on most major Linux distributions, and works well for playback and library management. It also talks to a number of music players.
The version of Rhythmbox included in Ubuntu 10 has an online store to shop for music as well. You can also download non-DRM-protected music from Amazon.com. What is it you are trying to do with iTunes?Registered Linux user #270181
