    Trouble booting scientific linux.

I downloaded scientific linux, the two dvds for i386, and loaded the first one into my laptop. all I got was a black screen saying 'ISOLINUX 3.11 2005-09-02 Copyright (C) 1994-2005 H. Peter Anvin'

I've tried burning the iso twice, on two different computers, with two different softwares. I don't know what could be wrong.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Check this HowTo for making sure you've downloaded and burned the ISO files to disk properly:

    http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ins...ll-cd-dvd.html

Post back if you've followed the steps properly and are still having problems.

thanks for the welcome! I didn't know about the md5check thing, I'm still relatively new to linux, the md5sum is different than what it's supposed to be, does this mean the download is corrupted?

It very well could be. I'd try to download again and this time go for the md5sums matching up, then burn to disk as an image once again.
