Just for the record, there is a slight difference between monitoring and alerting

For a start, Munin - Trac is a nice and easy to setup monitoring tool.
I like and use yellow : Xymon - Status @ Wed Sep 01 12:46:01 2010 for the alerting of our datacenters.
Then there is of course Nagios - The Industry Standard in IT Infrastructure Monitoring
..and surely several more, just search the usual spots: freshmeat/sourceforge/etcLast edited by Irithori; 09-01-2010 at 10:52 AM.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

You can also use monit.
It's pretty simple.
