Yum update won't run on fedora 13?
Hey guys, recently ran into another issue (for those who haven't seen it, I'm having an issue setting up my wireless on Linux...) which is that when I run the yum update command in the Terminal I get this output:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again
Any ideas what's going on? I've got internet, so other than that I have no idea what's my issue (maybe linux just hates me???)
Much Appreciated,

Open /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo file and remove # sign before baseurl line.
Press Ctrl+X, Y and hit Enter key to save file.Code:su - nano /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

So I tried what you told me to do with the removing of the # prior to the baseurl in the /etc file, however I still get the same message:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again
I have no idea what's wrong with it, but when I tried to install Fedora I noticed that I couldn't do the updates their either (same issue with the repomd.xml file). I'm starting to wonder if I should try using ubuntu instead. Any suggestions? I quite enjoy working with Fedora (I've used it at college for a couple semesters now, and haven't have these issues on those drives), but I'm getting quite annoyed with these problems and errors on my laptop.
Thanks much,

Try reversing Devils Casper's suggestion and then running
Code:yum clean all yum update

Tried the clean all, still no luck. Any more ideas, or should I just give up? Seems like Fedora isn't like me too much :P

You could always try another distro and join the "distro sluts" club. Come back to Fedora when you know more about Linux. You could also attempt to re-install Fedora, which may or may not help.
I'm sure if you keep fiddling with it, you'll figure something out.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

Heya Mike,
Sorry to sound like an idiot, but what's a "distro"? :P
And as much as I am getting annoyed with Fedora, I quite enjoy it's layout and the way it works (when it does!)!

Does your net connection use a proxy server?

Dear Daark;
That would be a no on the proxy server.

A distro is just a version of Linux. We have so many different versions.
Linux distribution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fedora is one distro, Ubuntu is another....there must be thousands of distros available. The thing that really separates distros from each other is the package manager. If you click this link and look on the right side of your screen, you'll see a list of the top 100 distros. Go getcha some!
