    swappiness not working

I'm trying to stop swapping on my system (without using swapoff -a). So I do:

    echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness

    vmstat 5

and I still see swapping activity under si and so.

    Am I missing something?!?! Thanks!

Don't know for sure why, but the "swappiness" setting may only be a "hint". Why don't you want to use swapoff -a to terminate paging?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Also, the kernel doesnt swap just for fun, but rather because there is not enough real ram.

So, you should take this as a warning and rather look for reasons why this is happening.

If you turn off swap, your system may just die the next time too much ram is being allocated.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
