    [SOLVED] Migration Help - FC4/CentOS

    Hi All,

The old server is Running FC4, and the new server is running CentOS5 (latest)

I followed (can't post a link yet) the turorials online that show how to migrate a user from old linux box to a new linux server.

I have followed the instructions and cannot logon with anyone other than root, also copied my smb.conf smbusers and smbpasswd files for samba, can't logon to samba via my windows machines with...you guessed it....Anything other than root.

. It tells me the username/password is incorrect...Even if I change the password

    I'm lost

a little new to linux as well, but I did follow all the steps and did everything correct.

i think you done it using given link
Move or migrate user accounts from old Linux server to a new Linux server
you export UGIDLIMIT=500 - setup UID start limit for normal user account. Set this value as per your Linux distro. correctly as your distro ?

Correct, that's the link I followed.

I'm Running FC4. As far as I know UGIDLIMIT=500 was the correct limit for FC4?

Since your main problem seems to reside with SMB/Samba, there are a couple of questions, and requests.

    Requests:

    1. Please post contents of smb.conf, smbusers, and smbpasswd files.
    2. Where were they located with FC4 (locations, names, and/or formats may have changed).

    Questions:

    1. When you recreated your user accounts, are you sure you kept their old user and group id.
    2. Ditto regarding groups / group id's / group members.
    3. What are/were you using for authentication? Standard Linux /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group - or something like YP or LDAP?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Glad to hear you figured it out. I also run CentOS 5.5 on my server/workstation. It's been incredibly reliable for the past almost 3 years. It's my main workhorse system.
