Thanks "friend from ancient delicious Arabia".. May the sands of time be your best friend...

OK.. I've got the ISO CD made, and it's starting to boot... I feel like I should be "bouncing in my chair"...

I've read that Fedora is more secure than Ubuntu.. How is that so..?
Is it secure by default, or do you need to add a lot of security..?

I found with Ubuntu I Had-to run DBAN autonuke, to erase a nasty little bug infested partition that a new Ubuntu install wouldn't erase... Does the Fedora install truly erase all that's on the hd..?
My Net-connected PC's get hit a lot by angry folks who are defending the destruction of the planet.. while I've been a lot noisy about why people should stop hurting the planet... I've published that money should be extincted.. They really didn't like that... I see it that the money world is paying the Poor to destroy the planet for them for raw materials to make lots of money with... Seems there is nothing that will stop this path of destruction... I'm sorry that I'm such a pain, but I want some planet left healthy for my grandkids... It's a selfish motive, I suppose... My yapping does nothing.. I suppose I should just quit complaining, and be silent, and watch them kill our planet... I wish they would stop wrecking my computer OS's... Maybe if I shut-up they'll stop..?

Are there any frankincense trees near where you live..? The scent of that stuff makes my spirit sing... In North America we've got pine tree sap, but most of it doesn't smell good when it's smoldering on hot coals...

The only thing that I wouldn't do, that the default install does, is use a LVM file system. It unnecessarily complicates things. Just choose your partitions manually, something like this:

    /
    /home
    swap

WOW! this OS is umm.. umm.. umm.. "WOW!" and "Yum!"... Blues.. my favorite...

Oops! I already let default do its thang.. No problem though, I've got 20 more hd's to mess with..
I'll choose partitions on the next hd install... Thanks for the Tip...

Linux is truly the essence of the brotherhood of mankind.. and Fedora is the fedora of mankind...

Initial impression as it updated, was, "This OS is like entering a prime cave, in which the walls become brighter the further you progress".. as the splash implies...

"unnecessarily complicates things".. Do you think that a second reboot right after the first, after the initial ISO install, could help in resolving some of the complications..?

    What I mean is this:

If you are trying different Linux distros, you can reuse your home partition. It is much easier to do that if you don't use a LVM. You can reuse the /home partition, and not lose any data. But you must tell the installer NOT to reformat the /home partition.

Having some trouble installing Fedora updates in this old compaq tower...
Probably a hardware antiquity glitch..? Or this particular hd has bad clusters..? Probably both...

I'll try your Tip.. I'll install Fedora with an existing Ubuntu Home partition...

What does the Fedora install do when it runs into a bad cluster..?

It's this 120-gig Seagate hd, that I got from a junk tower I found on the curb.. It has always had problems installing OS's.. I suspect it has bad clusters.. and/or it could be that I burned the ISO on an erased CDR..? Backend shuts-down while it's trying to update... I've got to get to the store for some fresh CDR's.. and I'll try the install with one of my known good hd's...

Is there a Ubuntu or Fedora software that will run a "scandisk" for hd physical damage..?

Back in my running Windows OS's, I had this one hd that kept developing more and more bad clusters.. a new bad cluster every couple days.. From the scan charts it seemed the proliferation of bad cluster were spreading like maybe an insect got squished on the platter, and its smear was being spread on the platter..? I supposed... That would be a true "bug-bug"...
