Partitioning/XP Install
Hi,
I am REALLY new to linux, but trying to learn. I thought I would come on here to get some advice and hear what people have to say. Anyway, I just got very powerful computer that is running RedHat linux on it. I am an entrepreneur/design engineer so I do a lot modeling, rendering, etc and lot of my programs can only run in Windows. I have a fully licensed version of XP that I want to install on the computer and wondering if it is possible to do the following:
Partition a portion of the drive for XP.
(VMware isn't the greatest as you lose your 3D acceleration, so I definitely want to do the partition)
Install my programs and ensure they run.
Use the machine as a virtual desktop remotely? Is this even possible?
Thanks a lot!
Best,
Harrison

Installing Windows onto a PC that already has Linux
is a bit tricky for someone who is absolutely new to Linux.
When you install XP, it will overwrite the bootloader in
the Master Boot Record of the hard drive, and the
computer will boot directly into Windows.
The bootloader can be restored to the previous state
(and set up for dual boot), but is a bit mysterious for a new
user of Linux.
