    HUGE problem with Fedora!!!

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and really trying to find my feat around the place, the same could be said about Linux. I have just started to get to know how Linux really works, and recently, made a dual - boot system, with Fedora 11 working along Windows 7, 64-bit machine. Everything went well till the point where I wanted to start installing some features on F11, like JAVA, nedit, some drivers for the machine to work properly. The thing is, I can't install anything on my F11, when try to run rpm files, it prompts me for the root password, then it tries to do something, and crashes. The error looks like this:

An iternal system error has occured

A problem that we were not expecting has occured.
Please report this bug in your distribution bugtracker with the error description.

    Details:

    .....

I am really confused by this, because everywhere I look I got some kind of problems. Like, my network driver also doesn't seem to work on Linux, so no Internet there, OK, I download some drivers for my machine on Linux that should fix this, but I cannot do that if I can't run rpm files, and I'm really stuck. Please guys, give some help for a new guy, who's trying to find out more about Linux OS.

    Thanx in advance,

    Kris

    Hi Kris!

I am quite new to linux too. Inspite of my number of post that automatically rated me as a Linux Engineer.

One way I overcome issues when I was really starting is that I have realized that seemingly huge issues become easier to solve when I "chop it up" into several chunks. Meaning, network/internet problems, multi media problems, partitions, etc.

You might want to give it a try too

To solve your problem install Fedora 14, which will be released in a few hours, or install Fedora 13. Fedora 11 has reached End Of Life status and as such is no longer supported. The repositories for Fedora 11 have been moved or disabled. While you can still use yum in Fedora 11 the best you can expect to achive is the ability to install the OS and get the last update that was available. Installation of other software will be extremely difficult. So, instead of banging your head against the wall trying to use an outdated Fedora release use the time you will waste trying to get Fedora 11 to work to install a current release.

Just installed F13, also downloading F14, but the problem still persists, can't get anywhere because Fedora is pratically unusable, if I can't install anything or connect to the internet...

Errors shown now, are the following:

    [root@Kristaps-PC ~]# yum repolist
    Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve metalink for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again

    [root@Kristaps-PC ~]# yum upgrade
    Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again

in your fedora 13 internet is working ?
or your yum installer is not working ?
your system is behind a proxy network ?
Take risks: if you win, you will be happy; if you lose, you will be wise.

Can you use sudo from another account rather than root? Or if you have to use root, can you login to root account with "su -l" and then give it a shot?
