Even after I follow all the instructions at the Skype website for using ALSO to emulate OSS, microphone input does not work under Skype. I get total silence instead, even when I have the microphone volume (System>Preferences>Advanced Volume Control) turned up so high, I can hear the slightest sound in the feedback to the headphones.

The device that shows up is HDA Intel ALSA, which Ekiga displays a little differently, as "HDA Intel (PTLIB/ALSA). it also display TWO Intel devices, where Advanced Volume Control displays only one HDA Mixer.

Finally, I also have this odd, possibly related problem of System>Preferences>Sound printing a dialog about waiting for the device -- and then never getting there.

Now of course, it has occurred to me to try the Echo test in Ekiga, but right now, I don't have the headset with me. But if forum members think that is the right way to go, I will certainly try that when I next sit down to work on this problem.
