RHEL 5/Solaris10/Fedora Core9
Hello All,
I'm probably in way over my head, but have recently been given a job that will be utilizing the systems in the Subject. My employer will be sending me to school for the basics (Red Hat System Administration). However, I realize that this will be bare bones and just the essentials.
I currently have a Macbook Pro that I would like to be able to virtualize a server and install RHEL 5 to begin to read through manuals and anything else I can get my hands on.
Wondering if the community has any advice for operating/installing RHEL 5 on a Macbook (virtualized preferably), as well as any other useful advice or comments in regards to 'speed learning' these systems.
Thanks in advance.

Get VirtualBox or Parallels. Install CentOS 5 (free version of RHEL 5), Fedora 9, and Solaris x86. FWIW, Fedora 9 is WAYYYY out of date. They are at FC13 or 14 now. Ask your boss why you need to learn about FC9. RHEL 6 has just been released into the wild (last week or so), so as far as RHEL is concerned, 5.5 is about the most current production version. I run Solaris 10 x86 on my CentOS/RHEL 5.5 system in VirtualBox without problems. In fact, I do kernel module/driver development for it there.
So, get CentOS 5.5 - www.centos.org - The Community ENTerprise Operating System, and Solaris 10 x86 - Oracle | Hardware and Software, Engineered to Work Together - and ask your boss about Fedora. Does he REALLY want you to work with FC9? Perhaps, if he has a bunch of FC9 systems to maintain...
So, have fun, and post further questions here. We'll try to get you "over the hump".

Rubberman,
Thanks for the reply, will get busy on getting the systems you mentioned installed and up and running.
Really appreciate the response. As far as Fedora 9 goes, I just know that it is currently on the system I am supposed to be working on. I haven't been allowed access to the server rooms yet, so I was just trying to replicate the configuration so I could be familiar with it.
Cheers.
