i bought following server about some days ago :
Supermicro X8DTi
1u Super micro Chasis
2x 1TB Sata 2
i want install centos 5.5 64bit on it, i download ...

Kernel Panic !!!unable to mount root fs on unknown block
Hello,
i bought following server about some days ago :
Supermicro X8DTi
1u Super micro Chasis
2x 1TB Sata 2
i want install centos 5.5 64bit on it, i download centos 5.5 64bit from centos.org torrent link but when i want setup centos it says :
kernel panic : not syncing : VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(253,3)
and also i set adptec raid in my bios and set raid 0 in adptec raid controller (my mainboard has onboard raid) i run any command you think like linux dd, linux all-generic-ide, linux noprobe, linux nostorage and etc but none of them does not work for ,e
can any one help me how can i solve it?

Help, not much other than don't enable raid at this point. Try to install the system as JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Discs). Once you have the system operational, then you can try other stuff. It's sort of like learning to tread water before you try to swim across the English Channel...
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

you suggest me that do not enable raid before installation and when my installation finish then install it?

Not necessarily. However, until you have a functional system, RAID is irrelevant.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

I/O is impotant in my work, so what is your suggestion about 2x1TB hdd with raid 0 ? do they provide good I/O speed ?

I use the drives a just a bunch of discs, formatted as ext3, and with LVM2 installed so they appear as a single volume. I/O is good, though backups are needed, though in my experience, RAID volumes STILL need to be archived for good failure recovery characteristics. Mirroring means that if one disc goes bad, you still have your data (hopefully), but you lose half of your available space. I've been running 4 drives in an LVM configuration (2TB) for 4 years, and no errors yet. I keep my critical data backed up on an external 1.5TB disc, so if the array fails, I can restore what I cannot get from other sources.

1)my sever config are :
cpu : 1x E5620 12mb cache 2.4ghz
ram : 16gb
i want host about 40-50 vps with no overselling openvz vps,
so you think i make a lvm partition and mount it on /vz is good and i have no problem with I/O ?
2) do you have any idea that how cna i solve that error?
