    about promiscrous mode of network

I have a swither whose manual book indicates it supports capturing traffic via observing port if configured correctly .

Currently , I have a PC with linux installed (centos ) and connected to this port and try to dump the data using wireshark 1.4.2. Unfortunately , I only capture data with source/destination directed to itself . I confirmed that all data are redirected to observing port because if a PC of Win2003 + Wireshark is connected and really dump all data.

So I guess it might be caused by the NIC configuration in Linux . I am not sure that the NIC does really work in promiscous mode so that it abandon other data.

Besides ,I also try to dump these data using TCPdump ,and so is it .

Could someone help to share some idea of debugging this behavior ?
