Post change transmission range of a node from default 250 to some other value

I am working with NS-2, I am facing a situation where I need to re align the transmission range of a particular node. Can I do this by modifying the protocol's source code? I should not change the default value from 250, only few nodes who satisfy a particular criterion should be reset to some other range like 200 or 300. How can I do this? Which files should I study and modify?

This is pretty deep into the bowels of TCP/IP congestion protocol implementation for this group to deal with, I suspect. Try contacting some of the researchers at CalTech (Xiaoliang "David" Wei's Homepage) and Stanford (Pei Cao's home page at Stanford) for better advice on this.
