Modify the Fedora 14's splash screen?

I have a cool idea to customize the Fedora 14 splash screen, by "adding hands in the hole, pushing the hole larger". Is there a way to get that default splash screen up in Gimp?

I made a silly mistake in this. I deleted all the pix in "change desktop".

I haven't tried to pull something from "change desktop". Where do I find the splash now?
    What format is it in?

I'm wondering if i can do up a fearless curious-dragon making its way through the hole?
It's a nice splash, but I wants to personalize it to make it more conducive to a sci-fi writer's splash, so it adds to the theme flowing in my thoughts as the PC boots-up.
