[SOLVED] screen resolution limited to 600x800 in fedora 12
The "Display" interface does not have a tab for "Hardware". The resolution does not go above 800 x 600.
There is no \etc\X11\Xorg11.conf file.
There don't seem to be any display drivers in the software repository like in ubuntu.
I obviously don't know much about linux, so I would appreciate suggestions being sort of step-by-step.

First, we need to know what video device you have. From the command line, do:
and post back the results please.Code:/sbin/lspci | grep VGA

Tried that, I get:
Setting up Install Process
No package kmod-nvidia-96xx-PAE available.
Nothing to do

try "yum install nvidia*"
make sure its nvdia* with the asterisk so it will then install all available nvidia applications availeble for your system.
Then try clicking system>administration and then on "nvidia x server settings" and adjust the resolution from there.

I tried both suggestions and both times still get the same error, no nvidia package available nothing to do.
Do I need to install some type of repository first so it can find these packages?

To update, I tried again with the "yum install nvidia*" and the terminal asked me to install yum which I answered yes to. After installing yum I re-ran that command and successfully installed the nvidia packages.
When I went to look for the controls under system>administration there was nothing there of the sort, so I rebooted. When I did that, the computer rebooted to a black screen, so I had to re-install from the live cd. Is it really this hard to get a correct display resolution on this OS.

Did you follow his instruction for setting up his repositories?
It depends...Is it really this hard to get a correct display resolution on this OS?
Fedora is a cutting edge distro and requires "hands on" configuration. All the "non-free" extras have to be installed and configured and this takes time and experience. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and learning, Fedora is a good one for that purpose. If, on the other hand, you're not into the educational aspects of using a cutting edge distro, there are better choices. I'd go back to one of the *buntu's. Mint is a very fine distro that has most everything right from the get-go. Other possible candidates: PCLinuxOS and SuSE.
