Lightweight file manager for use over SSH/X11
Here's the issue - I have a buddy that from time to time needs to copy data ( over a TB ) off my server from. He has no Linux experience, and doesn't want everything. So I set him up an account and got Putty all configured with X11 and all those goodies. Now he can take his Windows based laptop, plug into my network, fire up putty, and launch Nautilus via X11 over the network. It works just fine - gets the job done way faster than copying over the network (he plugs his external directly into the server's usb port).
Problem is that Nautilus is a freaking beast. During the copies, it pegs out my machine to the point of me getting memory errors during compilation of projects. In fact it couldn't even open X because there was not enough memory to load nvidia mod. (guess Nautilus doesn't play nice with it comes to virt mem).
Any recommendations for a more efficient X11 manager - nothing flashy - just drag and drop capable. I;m open to other suggestions, but please nothing that says "yeah, teach him how to use Linux" or otherwise. Just looking for suggestions
Thanks!
Shawn
P.S. Server is headless - so doing it locally to the server is a no-go
