    Question FTP file upload... HOW?

I have configured vsftpd in my redhat machine(server), such that users specifed in a usergroup can download or upload files from/into a common folder in the server.
Using another redhat machine(client) i want to upload files into it.
I tried using 'put <filename>' command. but this didnt work.
[the two systems are in same network.]
Can someone help me on how exactly do i achieve this. Please give some examples specifying, from which directory location i should run the command, etc. ????
