Should the process "Named (DNS Name Server)" be running on a VPS?

I used to have an account here but can't remember it, so my first post is right in at the deep end! I am babysitting a webserver for someone who is on tour, sadly things seem to have gone to **** and I am in way over my head trying to sort it out.

Basically I am having problems with a webserver on a VPS, the domain name is not taking me to the site but the IP is, suggesting there is a problem somwhere in between. I noticed that the process "Named (DNS Name Server)" is not running and presents this error in var/log/messages:

    2011-02-20T06:50:39.724827-07:00 ip-xx-xx-xx-xx named: zone localhost/IN: loaded serial 42
2011-02-20T06:50:39.724871-07:00 ip-xx-xx-xx-xx named: zone yourdomain.com/IN: loading master file /var/named/yourdomain.com.zone: file not found
    2011-02-20T06:50:39.724883-07:00 ip-xx-xx-xx-xx named: _default/yourdomain.com/IN: file not found
    2011-02-20T06:50:39.724899-07:00 ip-xx-xx-xx-xx named: zone 0.168.192.in-addr.arpa/IN: loaded serial 100

I am hoping that this is the problem and that I can sort it out ASAP
    Any ideas guys/gals? Regards

unless you're running a DNS server on the machine, then no

usually the host has DNS servers that you add the entry to for the domain name and IP, which then propogates over the internet (takes 24-48 hrs)
