Compatable NIC
Can anyone steer me to a Linux compatable NIC? And how difficult is it to install the driver? "I don't know nuthin 'bout no compinin".

Pretty much any NIC will do, as far as I've experienced. I've not once had any trouble installing an ethernet card, regardless of the brand, chipset, model, what have you. Most Linuxes these days will pick it up and auto-configure it for you in their installers.

Most Linuxes these days will pick it up and auto-configure it for you in their installers.
You're saying I don't have to download any drivers? the installer will configure, etc?

As long as we're talking about regular wired network cards, yes. I've never once had a Linux installer that couldn't find and configure my ethernet card by itself, with no downloading drivers or any such thing. Now it may ask you if you want to use DHCP (usually the answer is yes), but that's about as technical as it gets in the distros I've used.
