Help with 2 instructions in Beeceem doc

I am trying to follow a beeceem doc to setup a sierra wireless 250u modem. The title of the article is "USB linux Driver Build instructions. My goal is to get connection manager going. But I do not understand two of the three "Assumptions" or how to implement them. I have fedora fc 14. The example used fc8. Here are the three assmptions:

Target laptop should run on off the shelf Fedora Core 8. I am running Core 14.

"The Linux Kernel Version should be 2.6.23.1-42.fc8 DHCP client available on Linux machine. "

"Kernel sources should be installed during intallation of FC8." I already installed FC14, must I roll back to FC8? Is my FC14 DHCP client available. I am connected by DHCP. I am not really sure what they mean by kernel sources or how would I install them.

I am trying to get a Clear USB modem working on 4G. It worked out of the box on 3G on both Debian 6.0 and on Fedora C 14. The driver and firmware setup uses both a Windows XP laptop and the Linux laptop connected with an ethernet cable.
