    Copying a file

All I want to do is put a file on my jumpdrive. When I try to copy it off my computer it says that there was an error "Read-only file system". I've tried changing the permissions on the file, the folder it is in, and the jumpdrive, and it doesn't care. Is there a way to force-copy it?

What's on the drive you are copying to?
You can copy from a read-only filesystem but not to it so without knowing what is on the "jump drive??

I have sd cards that I install in USB carriers, creating a jump drive. Sometimes, the read-only switch becomes enabled, and the read-only device effect comes into play. Also, your system may be configured so that non-root users have read-only access to a USB thumb drive. Execute the "mount" command (with no arguments) and post the output back here.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
