Hi manu and welcome to the forums! Wine is not a magic bullet that allows all programs made for Windows to run under Linux. With Wine, some apps work almost perfectly, some mediocre and others poorly if at all. As you can see here, Word 07 works less than splendidly but it can be done following the instructions at WineHQ. You say running Office 07 is a "a 'do or die 'condition" for you. May I ask what you need Office 07 to do that OpenOffice or Abiword cannot?

A am 100% in accord with Dapper Dan on this. I would NEVER try to run MS Office under Wine. If you MUST have MS Office on your Linux systems, then run it on Windows in a virtual machine. Personally, I have not used MS Office in my business for about 3 1/2 years, even though many/most of my clients are still using it. I use Libre Office (successor to Open Office) now, and either send documents as PDFs, or if the client needs to be able to edit them, convert them to .doc format before I send them. So far, there have been no problems with this approach.

^What they said. It's amazing that Word runs as well as it does over Wine, which is to say downright poorly. MS in general uses such tight coupling of its OS and applications that you can expect few features to work in the absence of a registry, Windows Explorer, and such.

    Try Brand Office

You may use Brand Office for 'live-saving cases of emergency'. Navigate to Add/Remove Software and in the search-box write: broffice

It is based on the Open Office word processing and desktop publishing engine and has almost everything (that you will ever use) in the Office Package, and is compatible with the Windows Office at file format level.

So, uninstall WINE, install brand office, and if you are not native English speaker you may install some spell-checkers in addition.

In the search-box of Add/Remove Software write: hunspell

... and install the spell-checker in your native language.
