    Fedora 13 Wireless

    I just installed Fedora 13 on my desktop but I can't get it to pick up the wireless network in the house. The desktop has a Linksys AE1000 that can feed off of the wireless router in another room when I boot up in Windows. Any suggestions?

    I believe that adapter needs the drivers from the Ralink site.
    The one you're looking for is RT3572USB.

    The Ralink site has pretty good instructions, so take a look at them.
    But if you have any questions, post back with them

    1> $tar -xvzf RT3572_Linux_STA_x.x.x.x.tgz
    go to "./RT3572_Linux_STA_x.x.x.x" directory.

    This is step 1 according to the ReadMe file but, ./RT3572_Linux_STA_x.x.x.x doesn't seem to be a directory. I don't recall /(root) ever being a hidden file either.

    After you do tar -zxvf on the downloaded package, it should vave created a new directory that contains the source files.
    Do ls -a to make sure it's there, and to get the correct name of the directory.
    After you cd into that directory, you should be able to do make, and then as root do make install.

    What's in bold is what I'M having trouble understanding.

    1> $tar -xvzf RT3572_Linux_STA_x.x.x.x.tgz
    go to "./RT3572_Linux_STA_x.x.x.x" directory.

    2> In Makefile
    set the "MODE = STA" in Makefile and chose the TARGET to Linux by set "TARGET = LINUX"
    define the linux kernel source include file path LINUX_SRC
    modify to meet your need.

    3> In os/linux/config.mk
    define the GCC and LD of the target machine
    define the compiler flags CFLAGS
    modify to meet your need.

    ** Build for being controlled by WpaSupplicant with Ralink Driver
    Please set 'HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y' and 'HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=n'.
    (just above I was told to set them both to y, no one needs to be y and another on n, what's gong on?)

    There's no need to dig into the config files.
    Code:
    $ tar -zxvf
    $ cd <new directory>
    $ make
    # su -
    <enter your root password
    # make install

    So what does the line "tar -zxvf" do? I've already unzipped the file via a graphical extractor to my desktop. Is tha the same thing?

    Below is what I get when I navigate to the unzipped folder and enter the 'make' command.
