    Hello and welcome!

Yes, you can if your CPU is 64-bit capable. What is the model number of your CPU?

Note that you may very well continue to have dependency issues with 64-bit Linux.

Start a linux, even from a liveCD if you have to.
    The do
    Code:
    cat /proc/cpuinfo
If there is a flag "lm", then this cpu supports long mode == 64bit
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

In addition to the command given above by Irithori, you can get lots of info about your CPU by checking the specifications for your particular model.
