Personally, I used iSCSI Enterprise Target (ietd) instead of the Linux iSCSI Target Framework (tgt - which I think is what YUM has for RHEL6). I've been using it as a couple backend for shared storage for my lab vCenter setup. It works really well.. TGT would constantly freak out (I can't remember exactly what the problem was, but I changed over to IETD about a year ago and have had no problems) and I'd have to manually intervene.
Get/build the ietd software by searching 'ietd' on google. (Sorry, i can't post links)
Then search for 'configure ietd linux' should bring up some good docs.
Hope this helps
Chris
