Cant change the boot order in fedora
Hi Guys
I have currently lost my root password to my fedora PC, Im left with no option but to perform a new installation. I want to install fedora 15 and I cant boot from my cd. In the setup mode, there is no option that would allow me to change boot order to cd. In setup, on boot. there is boot-time diagnostic screen [disabled], and boot device priority.
Your help is highly appreciated.

What does it show you for boot priority?
And are you unable to access the BIOS on this computer?
If you can boot to a LiveCD, any liveCD, you can reset your passwords without the need for a reinstall.Jay

Read the howto, tried the first two options for LILO and GRUB, both does nt work for me. Im not quite sure which is LILO
and GRUB. How do I know that?
I've not tried the third method, its a bit complex. I need to reset the password or reformat. Please give me clear Directions
Help.

Fedora uses the GRUB bootloader. So give that method a try.
It may not work on all machines, but it's worth a go.
Failing that, the other directions that I could give are already well laid out in the page that I linked to you.
Have you been able to access your machines BIOS? Normally, during startup, you would hit F2 or <esc>... the key is different depending on make, model and general age of the computer.
Once in the BIOS, however, you will be able to change the boot order. Change it to your optical drive and reboot with a LiveCD.Jay

you do not need to installed new OS if u lost ur previous password of root ...
u can fallow these steps to recover ur password
1 . Boot ur system ... when fedora boot image appear press e to edit
2 It will edit ur kernel version line.... then u need to write down end of it ..... single=\bin\bash
