Looking for some help with openvpn
Hi, I just joined this forum and am in need of some guidance.
Here is my scenario, I will am looking to set up a VPN using Fedora 15. I will need to allow 3-5 clients to access the server independently yet simultaneously. They will need to be setup to be accessed through TCP using a form of security (SSL?) in remote locations outside of the office. I will also need to run some windows programs using WINE. Is this possible to setup a Linux server and use windows 7 for clients and still allow everyone to open their own session of WINE among other things? I'm not sure if there would be any conflicts with using the same windows program simultaneously in different sessions of WINE.
Would it be easy to maybe use Ubuntu Server 11.04? If this can be easily achieved in Fedora, would anyone have some nice links to some in depth tutorials on how to set everything up?
Thanks for any responses, I really appreciate it!

Hi,
I dont use Fedora but CentOSes. 3-5 clients connecting to a suitable sized hardware ought not be a problem. Will the openvpn server runs as a desktop as well or will it be a standalone server?
I dont quite get about the WINE part but I'm assuming you'd want to run WINE on the server that runs the vpn daemon?
IMHO it ought to work out but I'd personally put the WINE server on a different server just so to off load any issues with the vpn connection (if any). And if you're running openvpn as your vpn solution, if you can run with UDP protocol. Makes a difference over slow links

Thanks for the response!
This machine will be a stand alone server. I'm just hoping I can port quickbooks into linux some how, working on that, but I've got remote access to all the files and the computer. I already tested it with multiple connections at once and it ran just fine. Just this one little detail, I'm hoping there's a way to do this, if nothing the other server items are installed.
I probably should have named this thread different, I was more looking for help with quickbooks and its data. Gonna check out VMware if WINE won't work.

Actually we do have about 10ish (last count and the ones i look after) of Quickbooks running behind our openvpn in one of our co-los. What I did was:
a. configure a vmware server 2 on a CentOS 5, was a 48Gig with raid 5 750G western D sata
b. populate/install the vmguests,
c. install quickbooks on them, put one machine as Windows share and mounts the quickbook data off it (but you'd probably want a simpler way)
The vmserver host is in the LAN. I give users vpn access to the openvpn gateway and push the LAN routes to the users, from their machine once vpn is connected and the routes get pushed to tun interface, they can just run from command line mstsc /v x.x.x.x (the quickbooks machine ip)
RDP experience is acceptable, not desktop speed but for remote users/accountants it's working alright. (i tell them these qbs are at a remote site so expect latency)

Oh, if it's of any worth , I didnt go with the WINE way, Intuit support gave me the round around when I discussed/emailed them on if it was possible.
You could probably get a better experience getting them to help out.
