    Qmail

    Hi All

I have recently began to look into Linux and what it can offer over the Microsoft offerings. As part of this I have a CentOS server with Plesk (the free one domain/email version) and Joomla. It all works and I am quite happy with it (and myself ) I now have need of a second email address which cannot be an alias. Before I spend many more hours (my wife is a Linux widow) working out the intricacies of qmail etc is it even possible to add a second IMAP account? Will the presence of Plesk actively stop it's addition or can I bypass Plesk and add it manually. And if I can add it manually, how? What commands do I need (qmail-newu etc). I don't really want to add extra OS users rather additional entries to /var/qmail/users/assign. Is there any TUI tools to manage QMAIL as this server has no GUI interface as I'm trying to keep it as trim as possible.

    Best regards,

    Chris

Since you have Plesk on the server then everything qmail related is done via Plesk. You need to add a domain via Plesk then click Mail Accounts under that domain. You can add your accounts and aliases from there

    Hi Zackwasa,

I have completed those steps and the website and one email address (via IMAP with aliases (postmaster, abuse etc)) is all working normally. What I need to achieve is the addition of an extra full mailbox. i have a piece of PHP which check the contents of an imap mailbox and creates/updates a job ticket with the contents of any new mails it finds. Consequently it HAS to be a proper mailbox and not an alias else I'll have tickets coming out of my ears with every Tesco, Amazon and EBay "offer" email I ever receive. The free version of Plesk limits you to one free domain and mailbox. I assumed (may be wrongly in retrospect) that Plesk was just a front end and doesn't actually nobble standard functionality. My idea in the original post is to add an assigned QMAIL mailbox outside of Plesk.

    Any Ideas?

You will need to make the changes directly in the database of Plesk, that's where everything is stored

Since you do not want to buy Plesk you can just remove it and install a free open source control panel like Virtualmin
