No GUI after RT kernel upgrade

    Hi guys

having recently switched over to fedora 15 after around 3 years of ubuntu (and loving it i must say), i have tried to optimize my machine for use in music production. this led me to adding the planet ccrma repository and adding the RT kernel to my distro.

upon reboot i no have no GUI, only command line. is it the case that the RT kernel only runs through the command line (surely not!)? if not, what has gone wrong and how can i sort it? i have tried startx but am told of a fatal error and that no screens can be found. in the same message it says xinit: network is unreachable (errno 101): unable to connect to x server.

Id really like to get a working RT kernel but for everyday purposes how do i switch it back via the command line so my computer is operable?

although i have experience in linux, the fedora way of doing things is obviously different so please assume very little knowledge in your replies!
    thanks guys

    james

What video hardware does your system contain? At the least, you will probably need to re-install your video driver, possibly rebuilding it to run with the new kernel. Make sure you also have installed the kernel-devel and kernel-headers package(s) for the RT kernel first.

If you are using the nVidia proprietary drivers, you have to reinstall the driver in text mode after a kernel upgrade.
