    Well, CentOS and SL (Scientific Linux) are RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) clones, so any application, driver, etc for RHEL will work with CentOS and SL just fine. The current versions (6.0 and 6.1) run the 2.6.32 Linux kernel, which while not the latest (2.6.40 and 3.0.x), is recent and well debugged. In any case, there is a raft of How-Tos, FAQs, and tutorials on the web for RHEL and related distributions. Check the Red Hat, CentOS, and Scientific Linux web sites for many of these.
