With the information you have posted, I doubt anyone will be able to help much. There's alway the chance of a lucky guess.
    No information on your hardware.
How did you try to install Ubuntu/Fedora?
How far is a little farther on Fedora?
Which steps completed successfully, if any?
    Where did it stop?
    Error message?
    Anything?

I did not install either Ubuntu or Fedora, as I get a black screen shortly after the install starts, the cd keeps running, but I can not tell what is or is not happening. Fedora has a basic mode, which at least gets in a graphic screen, but Gnome 3 fails to load. I tried this several days ago with Ubuntu, and had basically the same situation. I should add that I can get win-7 to load all the way thru, and everything works until I have to put in the licence, that is taken by another machine, thus I know that the laptop is fully functional. As for the specs of the machine...............

It looks like Linux installers are not configuring Graphics Card properly. I would suggest you try Ubuntu Alternate Installation .iso image. It works fine with almost all graphics cards.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
