    sending mail

    top -b -n1 | mail -s 'Process snapshot' validmailaddress
This should send me the stuff, instead nothing happens ?

Turning firewall off does not help.

sendmail service is running, default, no changes have been made there since os install.

All I want it to do is send mail. Nothing else.

OK that was network problem (could not surf, but within LAN all was working). But since that was solved, I get to:

    Oct 26 22:18:39 localhost sendmail[6572]: p9QKIdrX006572: from=root, size=15802, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<201110262018.p9QKIdrX006572@unknown001cc081 f832.home>, relay=root@localhost
    Oct 26 22:18:39 localhost sendmail[6575]: p9QKIddc006575: from=<root@unknown001cc081f832.home>, size=16109, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<201110262018.p9QKIdrX006572@unknown001cc081 f832.home>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]
    Oct 26 22:18:39 localhost sendmail[6575]: p9QKIddc006575: to=<xxx@yahoo.com>, delay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=46109, dsn=4.4.3, stat=queued
    Oct 26 22:18:39 localhost sendmail[6572]: p9QKIdrX006572: to=xxx@yahoo.com, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=45802, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (p9QKIddc006575 Message accepted for delivery)
But nothing gets to the destination mail. I think something is wrong with network, since mails was getting there if I obtained network settings via DHCP automaticaly.

    Any advice welcome.

If all was working when the mail server was using DHCP, then I would guess that your DNS config is not correct. Configure again for DHCP (temporarily) and check the output of this command:

    Code:
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
Run the command again when you are in static mode. You may need to manually add the nameserver lines in. You also need to be sure that your default gateway is being set. check with:

    Code:
    route -n

Can't reproduce, it stops at "accepted for delivery" in both cases now.HAve no idea where 169.254.0.0 comes from ?
Did not touch any of mail settings, they are as they were at OS setup.

    DHCP:
    [root@unknown001cc081f832 ~]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
    ; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script
    search home
    nameserver 192.168.1.1
    [root@unknown001cc081f832 ~]# route -n
    Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
