Hi, im not able to install Linux on windows7. Whenever i begin installation it shows "Intel Corporation Unknown device 0102" kindly advice...

    unable to install linux Rhel5.3

    Hi,
    im not able to install Linux on windows7.
    Whenever i begin installation it shows

    First of all, linux is an operating system, not an application.
    You dont install it on another, unless there is virtualization involved.

    The current version of RedHat Enterprise Linux is 6.1. Why install an older one?

    As for the install process: You should either have DVDs or ISO files.
    In case of ISOs: You need to burn a DVD and boot from that.

    Be aware, that rhel will need at least 2 partitions of your harddisc(s).
    As you mentioned w7 on the same machine: I would advice to make a backup of all data now.
    You must always face the curtain with a bow.

    Thanks for immediate reply. ya i have installed oracle virtual box and was installing linux5.3(As per project requirement) on that.On inserting the bootable CD, im getting that error (Intel Corporation Unknown device 0102) immediately after the second step of linux installation.

    If it needs to be rhel 5, then try the up to date 5.7.
    VirtualBox also lets you choose, which NIC is presented to the VM: Chapter*6.*Virtual networking
    Other than that, is that VM network NATed, bridged, internal or host-only?

    Thanks.Further to this, now im getting thie error.
    Unable to read package data.This may be due to missing repodata directory.

    That means that you need Internet connection before you can download updates, usually.
