    Hi All,

    I rebooted our RHEL 4 Enterprise Linux, but failed to continue booting, with error:

    INIT:cannot execute "/etc/X11/prefdm"
    INIT:Id "x" respawning too fast : disabled for 5 minutes

    Hi and Welcome !

    Is it a fresh installation? Boot up in Single User Mode and run fsck on / partition.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    no it is not a fresh installation, do i need to run fsck in a mounted partition?

    You should not run fsck on mounted partition. Either boot up in Single User Mode or use LiveCD of any Linux distro and execute fsck command.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
