    Noob with a question

So I'm fairly uneducated in Linux, for one of my classes we're running redhat 8.0 for the assignment we have I have to backup a user's (Lstudent is the user we created for the assignment) home directory into the root home directory using the tar command. I know I have to make a .tar file for it to be archived into, what I dont know is how to set where it saves to. Anyone care to help me out with this? My teacher's response is "figure it out" which I didnt find very helpful. I've read through the tar section of the manual and still dont get it. Thanks in advance
