Downloading crashes my internet on Fedora 14

I'm using Fedora 14 with a Zydas wireless internet card and every time I try and use any kind of downloading program like Vuze or gtk-gnutella, it causes my wireless internet to crash. I actually have to go reset the wireless router by unplugging it for ten seconds because the internet vanishes. Why would it do this? We have other computers in the house running Windows Vista and Windows 7 and they run Vuze just fine without crashing our internet. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you getting any kernel messages (via the wireless adapter driver) in the output of dmesg? Anything in /var/log/messages that gives you a clue?

What is your model of Zydas wireless adapter? Perhaps a more recent kernel (F16 comes with kernel 3.1) has a fix for your driver.

No, I'm not getting any messages, and when I try to open /var/log/messages it tells me "Access Denied". My Zydas adapter is a ZD1211B 802.11g. I would try to upgrade to F16, but I'm afraid that downloading it will crash my internet, so I don't do it.

    Hello and welcome!

You'll need root permissions to access log files. You can get that by using the su command, or the sudo command if you have sudo installed. See man su and man sudo for info on using them:

    Code:
    man su

    man sudo

Support for that driver has been in the kernel for a while, it seems. Perhaps it is something else. Follow ozar's suggestion to get a look at /var/log/messages.

I'd still recommend trying F16, too. Can you download the ISO from a stable Windows machine?
