I have tried Googling, but haven't found anything as to what might be causing these to occur.
Any help greatly appreciated ...

Where do these messages occur - on the console, or in the message log?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

oops - /var/log/messages (and dmesg). Doesn't appear to be going to the console.

Ok. Messages there (/var/log/messages or dmesg) can be simple debugging diagnostics. I emit similar messages in my kernel drivers when I want to trace some issues that are infrequent. If the system seems stable, then I'd advise to not worry about it.
