rh9 was released in march 2003. It is deprecated and end of life.
You probably wont have too much luck getting the modem to work here.
A modern linux like fedora 16, mint 12 or RedHatEnterprise/CentOS/ScientificLinux 6.x might be more suited,
but to be sure you should get the usb id for that device and google for it.
Not even sure, if rh9 has lsusb.
If not, plug this modem in any other linux machine and do

Hello and welcome!
I'm not familiar with that hardware, but Red Hat 9 came out almost 9 years ago, so you'll have much better hardware support with a later release of Red Hat or some other distribution if that's an option.
