    I am a newbie and sorry for my poor english. We have several PC with same configuration (AMD Sempron, 1GB RAM) at my workplace. Each loaded with RHEL4 and firefox 2.0.0.20. We have a dedicated leased line of 2Mbps. In some pc firefox connect to server very fast compared to other. Please help me to understand why this happens.

    There could be many reason why this is happening. Link could be full. Configuration of Firefox could be different on the machines.

    1. Check utilization of the link to ensure it is not over subscribed.
    2. Check Firefox setting in about:config
    3 Search Google for how to speed up Firefox.

    I presume all these systems are connected to the internet via a router which is in turn connected to the leased line?

    Thanks for responding.

    @Robert -

    The link is not over burdened, Firefox settings are all same. I googled how to speed up firefox. I made the changes to one of the slow machine. But nothing happened.

    @Rubberman

    You are right. All the pcs are connected to a router and that connected to leased line.

    Try switching ports that the pcs are connected to to see if it may be a switch problem. Next, you can run a tool like snort or wireshark to look at the packets from the slow systems to see if there are errors occurring on the wire - maybe you have a bad NIC in the slow machines?
