up2date not working as expected - not updating files or writing to log

I'm trying to run up2date on my kernel to upgrade from RH ES 4 (Nahant Update 3 to ES 4 update 9. The command I'm running is up2date -f kernel-smp. When I check the up2date log, I'm not seeing an updated entry there.

The command worked OK on 4 other servers. It looks like the file is just being downloaded but not installed?

    Please help. Thanks in advance.

I think I may be on to something.. I ran up2date --configure and it looks like it's set to download only. Changing that option and rerunning.
