    VSFTPD Cannot Open Config File

I have an install of VSFTPd, been running for months - users even logged in today and used the FTP server.

I *accidentally* performed a simple /etc/init.d/vsftpd stop today. No big deal, I figured, right? Just start it again.

For some reason it will not start:

    Code:
    # /etc/init.d/vsftpd start
Starting vsftpd for vsftpd: 500 OOPS: cannot open config file:/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf
                                                               [FAILED]
    I even tried:

    Code:
    # service vsftpd start
Starting vsftpd for vsftpd: 500 OOPS: cannot open config file:/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf
                                                               [FAILED]
    There is a file there:

    Code:
    # ls -l /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf
    -r-xr--r-- 1 vsftpuser root 1153 Jan 31 15:10 /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf
I have tried turning on/off selinux, I have scoured the log files for anything: /var/log/secure, /var/log/vsftpd.log, /var/log/messages...nothing.

Can anyone point me towards any suggestions? I have not found much on this while searching.

    Thanks,
    -Marc

I thought I would report back the solution in the event anyone else has this problem.

After about 4 hours of troubleshooting, I literally copied the contents of the vsftpd.conf file, deleted the file, created a new file, copied the contents back, and everything works.
